Natasha Jonas Vs. Mikaela Mayer Preliminary And Undercard Live Results, Recaps: Zak Chelli Wins British And Commonwealth Titles With Unanimous Decision Over Jack Cullen

Natasha Jonas defends her IBF Welterweight Title against Mikaela Mayer from the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Jonas is on a five-fight-win streak as she defends the belt she secured after stopping Kandi Wyatt. Wins over Chris Namus (WBO Belt), Patricia Berghult (WBC Belt) and Marie-Eve Dicaire (IBF Belt) helped her unify at 154 pounds.

Mayer is the former Super Featherweight Champion. She secured the WBO Super Featherweight Belt with a win over Ewa Brodnicka. Then a victory against Maiva Hamadouche allowed her to grab the IBF and Ring Magazine Belts. A defeat to Alycia Baumgardner meant she lost those titles. But Mayer is on a two-fight-win streak.

In chief support, Jack Cullen faces Zak Chelli in a rematch at Super Middleweight. Their first fight ended in a split draw, but many felt Chelli should have gotten the win. Now Cullen has a chance to silence the doubters once and for all with a dominant performance.

Jack Cullen vs. Zak Chelli – Super Middleweight

Zak Chelli became the new British and Commonwealth Super Middleweight Champion with a unanimous decision win over Jack Cullen.

Cullen was making the first defense of his title and had faced Cullin in 2020, having boxed his way to a controversial split draw. This time around, Chelli was the better fighter. The opening round was quiet, but Cullen landed the cleanest shot, as a right hand got him the opener. Chelli’s lateral movement stopped Cullin from using his range and jab as he landed a solid right on Cullen’s chin in a better second round.

Cullen began to throw combinations in rounds three and four, while Chelli’s successes came from his single jabs and right hands from the outside as he clinched in close quarters. Cullen sustained a cut above the left eye in the fifth. The champion sought to increase his output, but Chelli timed Cullin and made him miss.

Cullen knew the tactics had to change as he sought to counter Chelli on his way in rather than stalking his opponent. In the second half of the fight, both men struggled to connect with clean shots. But Chelli was doing enough to steal the rounds, landing two left hands from the outside in the ninth. Cullen attempted to press the action, but Chelli stayed on the outside as he took the win on the cards: 116-113, 116-112 and 115-114.

Official Result: Zak Chelli def. Jack Cullen via a unanimous decision: 116-113, 116-112 and 115-114

Karriss Artingstall vs. Lila Furtardo – Featherweight

Karriss Artingstall beat Lila dos Santos Furtado in their featherweight clash.

Artingstall went looking for Furtado, attempting to control the pace. Towards the end of the first round, Artingstall dropped Furtardo with a sharp left hand. Furtado recovered well as she boxed her way through the second. Artingstall stepped up the pace, but the increased work rate eventually slowed down. Both boxers traded heavily in the fifth, but Artingstall reestablished her dominance, as Furtardo’s nose poured with blood in the sixth. Furtardo needed a knockout, but it never came as Artingstall won it on the cards: 77-75.
