Nate Diaz Offers To Fight Deontay Wilder In MMA
Nate Diaz is fully behind Deontay Wilder crossing over into the world of MMA to face him.
Wilder’s comments about entering into MMA come after Francis Ngannou’s boxing debut against Tyson Fury in which the former UFC heavyweight champion put in a competitive performance. Despite coming out second best via a split-decision, Ngannou dropped his opponent in the third round. Thereafter, fights against Anthony Joshua and Wilder were mentioned. The latter was reportedly in talks to face Ngannou prior to his fight with Fury. And following that bout, Wilder made it clear that he would be open to having a boxing and MMA bout.
“People don’t know me and Francis was supposed to fight first. Certain things came up, all I can say is it’s business. That fight took place, which is cool because Francis has made a name for himself… I’m thinking about doing both, UFC and boxing. I’ll be a dangerous man in the UFC with those four-ounce gloves.
“I broke the hitting machine with those four-ounce gloves. That was some real stuff. I think it’s the competitive side of me, wanting to do both. Get in there, and just show the ability of what I can do. I don’t think there’s nothing cooler than being a champion in both [sports],” Wilder revealed
With that being said, Diaz was open to facing Wilder in an MMA bout.
“Let’s get these contract written up asap.. Real fight s**t respect to a real fighter down to fight for real. All love to boxing [,] But this is different REAL s**t LFG[,] 1993″– Diaz said
Diaz is fully aware of what it is like to crossover into another sport, having faced Jake Paul on his boxing debut on August 5th, 2023. Unlike Ngannou, however, Diaz failed to trouble the ‘Problem Child’ after hitting the canvas in round five. However, given that a male boxer has yet to crossover into the MMA world, seeing Wilder do so could open up doors for others, depending on the outcome.
Nevertheless, the chances of the fight happening are slim. Wilder is ultimately a heavyweight, while Diaz fights at 170 pounds. Therefore, finding a weight that is suitable is unlikely. And that was the sentiment being expressed on social media, with many believing that Diaz’s comments were not to be taken seriously.
