Navarrete-Nunez Unification Talks Underway

Talks are underway for a super-featherweight title unification between WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 KOs) and IBF champion Eduardo Nunez (29-1-0, 27 KOs).

Reports indicate the fight is being targeted for January 24 in Phoenix. However, the fight faces a roadblock in the form of mandatory challenger Charly Suarez. Saurez vs. Navarrete ended in an eighth-round stoppage as Navarrete won via a technical decision due to an assumed headbutt. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) later overturned the result to a no-contest, acknowledging that a punch, not a headbutt, caused the fight-ending cut. The WBO has officially ordered an immediate rematch between Navarrete and Suarez upon the champion’s recovery. For that to happen, Navarrete’s team must first successfully negotiate a step-aside deal with Suarez.
