Near Deadline, Loma-Campbell Look To Avoid Purse bid

The WBC has once pushed back a purse bid between lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko and Luke Campbell as both sides work towards a deal.

Bob Arum, who promotes Lomachenko and Eddie Hearn, who promotes Campbell are near a deal that could avoid both sides dealing with a purse bid scheduled for June 26th for the vacant WBC lightweight title.

Arum and Hearn are looking to finalize an August 31st fight from the O2 Arena in London, where the two former Olympic Gold Medalists will fight for the title vacated by Mikey Garcia following his decision this year to fight above the lightweight limit.

Campbell initially was willing to fight Devin Haney for the vacated title, even having Hearn announce in May that a deal was in place for a July 27th fight for the title, but a week later the WBC would announced a mandatory bid for Campbell and Lomachenko.

With a win, Lomachenko would add the WBC title to the WBO and WBA titles, continuing his quest to unify the division.
