New Boxing Film Starring and Directed by Gina Rodriguez in Production

Gina Rodriguez is starring and directing a new boxing film titled ‘House of Guerrero,’ which follows a fighter who after his boxing career is cut short, gets one final shot opportunity to step back into the ring and fight for redemption.

The film, Rodriguez’s theatrical directorial debut, is based on an original story she developed with screenwriter Bernardo Cubria, and will center Latino characters and their experiences in boxing – it is being marketed as a film for a new generation.

Rodriguez has trained in the sport for much of her life and said her experiences and appreciation for boxing helped inspire the movie.

“I’ve been boxing since I could walk, and I’m on a mission to show the world what fighting can teach you about life, if you let it,” Rodriguez said.

‘House of Guerrero’ was originally announced in 2021 under the title ‘Guerrero’, with Ryan Garcia 26-2 (21 KO, 1 NC) attached to star alongside Rodriguez. Reporting is mixed on whether Garcia remains involved in the latest version of the project.
