New Date Announced For Ryan Garcia vs. Luke Campbell

There is officially a new date for Ryan Garcia vs. Luke Campbell.

Garcia and Campbell were supposed to meet on December 5. That plan changed as Campbell tested positive for COVID-19. Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn said there wouldn’t be a significant delay and it turns out he was right.

DAZN has announced that Garcia vs. Campbell will now take place on January 2.

Garcia vs. Campbell will be contested for the interim WBC Lightweight Championship. At the moment, Devin Haney is the WBC Lightweight Champion, while Teofimo Lopez holds the franchise gold. Garcia has expressed interest in fighting both Haney and Lopez, as well as WBA (Regular) Champion Gervonta Davis.

Going into this fight, Garcia has a perfect pro boxing record of 20-0. Along the way, he’s scored 17 of those wins by way of knockout or TKO. He last competed on February 14, scoring a first-round knockout over Francisco Fonseca.

Campbell is hoping to rebound after his August 31, 2019 loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko. Campbell was competing for the WBA, WBC, and WBO Lightweight Titles. Campbell brings with him a pro boxing record of 20-3 when he shares the ring with Garcia. It’ll be an interesting clash as Garcia is known for his finishing ability, while Campbell has never been knocked out.
