New Date & Location Set For Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton

There is a new date and location for Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton.

Herring vs. Frampton was expected to take place back in February. There was a lot of finger-pointing as to why that timeframe didn’t work out. Ultimately, however, the bout does have a new date and location.

Top Rank Boxing has announced that Herring vs. Frampton will be held on April 3. The WBO Junior-Lightweight Title, held by Herring, will be on the line. This bout will be held inside Caesars Bluewaters in Dubai.

Here’s what Bob Arum had to say in the Top Rank press release.

“This is a fight that’s been in the works for a very long time, and I expect both Jamel and Carl to be at their best. It’s an even matchup, and I am pleased that fans in the United States can watch it live on ESPN+.”

This will be Herring’s third title defense. In his last outing, “Semper Fi” successfully retained the WBO gold against Jonathan Oquendo. Herring won the fight via disqualification due to a headbutt that was ruled intentional.

As for Frampton, his last outing took place back in August 2020. He stopped Darren Traynor in the seventh round via TKO. Frampton is a former featherweight and super-bantamweight champion. If he can emerge victorious in April, he’ll begin his first run as a junior-lightweight champion.

Shakur Stevenson is likely to receive the next WBO Title shot but if Herring defeats Frampton, Stevenson could be fighting for a vacant belt. That’s because Stevenson expects Herring to move up to lightweight after this bout.
