New Date Revealed For Miguel Berchelt vs. Oscar Valdez

The highly-anticipated showdown between Miguel Berchelt and Oscar Valdez has a new date.

Fight fans were expecting to witness a barn burner between Berchelt and Valdez on December 12. Berchelt was set to put the WBC Super-Featherweight Title on the line. That plan was derailed after Berchelt tested positive for COVID-19.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports now reports that Berchelt and Valdez will share the ring on February 20. Further details are scarce at this time.

“The Berchelt-Valdez fight has been rescheduled for Feb. 20 on ESPN. Should be an awesome fight.”

Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum hasn’t been shy in expressing his excitement for Berchelt vs. Valdez. Before the fight had to be delayed, Arum said the title bout had the potential to be a “Fight of the Year” contender for 2020.

“You talk about a fight. That is the only fight that I see that will contend – that might contender – for fight of the year other than (Jose) Zepeda and (Ivan) Baranchyk. I don’t know how you do a better fight that that one. But having watched all three Barrera-Morales fights, if Berchelt and Valdez is anything like those fights, it will certainly compete for Fight of the Year.”
