New Location For Ryan Garcia vs. Luke Campbell Reportedly Revealed

It looks like Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell are headed for a new location.

Garcia vs. Campbell will take place on January 2. The bout was going to be held on December 5 but a positive COVID-19 test on Campbell’s end caused a delay. The bout will be contested for the interim WBC Lightweight Championship.

Initially, the plan was to have Garcia vs. Campbell take place inside the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya then began having his sights set on Cancun, Mexico. It appears neither destination will play host to Garcia vs. Campbell.

Former ESPN boxing reporter Steve Kim has revealed that Garcia vs. Campbell will likely be held in Texas.

“Looking like the Ryan Garcia-Luke Campbell fight on Jan 2nd is headed to Texas. Golden Boy wanted to place this fight in Cancun, but ran into some issues. Bottom line is ‘KingRy’ wants a crowd and he’s a ticket seller.”

Garcia has a perfect pro boxing record up to this point. He has gone 20-0 with 17 knockouts to his credit. Campbell brings with him a record of 20-3 with 16 knockout wins along the way. Many believe this will be Garcia’s most stern test to date.

In his last outing back in February, Garcia knocked out Francisco Fonseca in the first round. Campbell hasn’t fought since August 31, 2019. He was bested by Vasiliy Lomachenko in a failed bid for the WBA (Super), WBC, and WBO Lightweight Titles.

Garcia vs. Campbell will air live on DAZN and is being co-promoted by Golden Boy and Matchroom Boxing.
