Newell (16-3) is coming off of a controversial split decision loss against Manny Muro at Bellator 232 in October. That also took place in his backyard, with friends and family watching. It was his second fight for the promotion after signing a multi-fight deal with them following his submission win over Corey Browning back in August.
Newell faces the 30-year-old Zach Zane (14-9), who is 2-2 in his last four fights. Zane last fought at Bellator 236 in Hawaii back in December, beating Nainoa Dung via unanimous decision. He also fought under the Brave and FCC promotions.
Both Newell and Zane are notable for competing under the Dana White Contender Series format. Newell lost to Alex Munoz in 2018 via unanimous decision, with Dana not giving him a contract. Zane was a part of the 2019 version of the program, losing to Justin Gonzales via unanimous decision.
Bellator 241 takes place inside the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. The main event will be Patricio Freire defending his Bellator Featherweight Championship in a Featherweight Grand Prix quarter-final bout against Pedro Carvalho. Another bout scheduled on the card will be Daniel Weichel facing Emmanuel Sanchez in another quarter-final bout.
