Ngannou Makes WBC Heavyweight Top Ten Ranking List

Francis Ngannou has been inducted into the WBC’s top ten rankings after his impressive performance against Tyson Fury

The former UFC heavyweight champion defied expectations with his performance, as he troubled the ‘Gypsy King’ throughout the fight. The third round summed up the performance as Ngannou dropped the WBC heavyweight champion with a left hook; the latter was taken aback. While Ngannou would come up short on the scorecards via a split decision, his trainer, Dewey Cooper, confirmed that Mauricio Sulaiman had planned on placing the fighter in the top ten of the rankings.

“Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the WBC, said he’s going to rank him in the top 10 because he’s better than most of the (boxing) heavyweights in the top 10. He said that (to Ngannou) in the ring. So absolutely, you’ll see him (box) again,” Cooper said

“What I personally witnessed last night is a solid boxer, who deserves to be ranked by the WBC and I will make such recommendations to the ratings committee,” Sulaiman stated

And that ranking was confirmed at the 61st World Boxing Council convention. In the picture below, Ngannou is shown to be at number ten, below Otto Wallin and Joseph Parker, both of whom have been confirmed as fighting on the December 23rd, 2023, Saudi Arabia card.

The news of the ranking received a mixed response on social media. Some boxing fans questioned the validity of Ngannou being ranked after just one fight. Meanwhile, others felt the decision was in part due to the controversial result of the Fury fight, with some feeling Ngannou should have been given the win.
