Ngannou Targets Joshua’s Chin, Hearn Backs Joshua For KO Win

Francis Ngannou is looking to exploit Anthony Joshua’s supposed weak chin ahead of their fight in March.

Ngannou’s stock has risen following his performance against Tyson Fury. On his boxing debut, he sent the WBC heavyweight champion to the canvas and lasted the distance. He lost a split decision but earned a WBC top-ten ranking. Ngannou’s power and ability to deal with Fury’s size earned him much praise, with links over a Fury rematch.

So far, that has not happened as Fury faces Oleksandr Usyk for undisputed. But Ngannou sees the Joshua fight as a chance to cause a big upset. The former UFC heavyweight champion will likely train under Mike Tyson again, just as he did for the Fury fight. That combination posed Fury problems, and if Ngannou manages to land as he did on Fury, he has backed himself to stop Joshua.

It’s going to be different. I will not just stay there and look at him. It’s going to be different. I’m going to throw some bombs out there for him to deal with. I think he’s going to be mindful of what he’s doing. If AJ takes the punch that Fury took, I don’t guarantee that he’s standing up. I’ve heard that he doesn’t have a chin. I’m going to find out, Ngannou stated

Ngannou knows a win over Joshua could put him in the conversation for further big fights. Joshua cannot afford to downplay Ngannou’s threat, as Joseph Parker’s win over Deontay Wilder showed anything can happen on the biggest stage. The Brit has been dropped in big fights as Andy Ruiz Jr. stopped him on his American debut. He also had to get off the canvas to stop Wladimir Klitschko.

But Eddie Hearn has backed Joshua to beat Ngannou. Joshua was linked with Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic, but Ngannou got the nod. The announcement was a surprise since Joshua was expected to face Hrgovic for a potential IBF title eliminator. That fight is still possible, provided he beats Ngannou. Hearn expects AJ to get the job done.

“I fancy the fight. You’ve heard me say before, I really believe AJ knocks him out. But he’s a dangerous fight. I know that this guy’s a big, big lump that can really punch, and I think he has no fear, which makes him dangerous. But I just feel like AJ’s in a great place, and I expect him to pick him apart and knock him out,” Hearn said
