No One Shocked As GGG-Derevyanchenko Ordered By IBF
Days after nearly negotiating a fight with Canelo Alvarez, Sergiy Derevyanchenko will now have to negotiate with Gennadiy Golovkin for the second time.
Dereyanchenko, who is the mandatory challenger for the now-vacant IBF middleweight title, has been ordered with Golovkin, who was IBF welterweight champion in 2018 but was stripped of the title after Golovkin made it clear he had no interest in fighting Derevyanchenko, who ended up losing to Daniel Jacobs for the title.
“The order was sent out today,” IBF spokesperson Jeanette Salazar confirmed to BoxingScene.com on Monday. “They have 30 days to negotiate.”
The negotiating window lasts until September 4th, and if both sides cannot come to an agreement, a purse bid will be ordered for the fight, which may not be needed, as Boxing Scene has reported the two fighters ar in-talks for an October 5th fight inside Madison Square Garden.
