Nonito Donaire To Make First Title Defense Vs. Reymart Gaballo On December 11
An all-Filipino clash is coming to California.
Nonito Donaire (41-6, 27 KOs) will make his first defense of his WBC bantamweight title against Reymart Gaballo (24-0, 20 KOs) on December 11 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The two will headline a Showtime Championship Boxing triple header.
Donaire is coming off a knockout victory over the previously undefeated Nordine Oubaali in May, taking new ownership of the title.
Gaballo was last in action against Emmanuel Rodriguez where he won via split decision for the interim title.
Gaballo, who is co-promoted by Sanman Promotions and MP Promotions, is from General Santos City, Philippines. He is 25, much younger than Donaire who turns 39 next month.
Despite the gap, Donaire is one of the most respected fighters in the division thanks to his long resume.
Prior his last fight, he tangled with Naoya Inoue, one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, and lost via unanimous decision for the WBA and IBF titles.
Donaire, who was born in the Bohol province in the Philippines, was in previous talks to matchup against WBO bantamweight titleholder John Riel Casimero, but it fell apart due to disagreements over pre-fight drug testing, among other things.
