Nouchi Extends Japan’s Gold-Medal Streak

Aimi Nouchi won her first Grand Prix title at the Grand Prix Hohhot, giving Japan yet another gold medal for the competition.

Nouchi was victorious in the U63kg category after Israel’s Gili Sharir could not compete in the final due to injury.

Nouchi defeated China’s Jing Tang with an ippon in the semifinals, while Sharir defeated Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard by disqualification after three rule infractions.

Bold Gankhaich of Mongolia secured the first bronze medal, defeating Tang in comeback fashion after a seoi-nage in golden score. The second bronze medal was won by Beauchemin-Pinard, who defeated Ketleyn Quadros of Brazil with a single waza-iri.
