Nunes Vs. Pena 3 Called Off As Irene Aldana Steps In

Dana White has confirmed that Julianna Pena, who was supposed to fight Amanda Nunes in their bantamweight trilogy, has been ruled out due to an injury, with Irene Aldana stepping in.

The pair were set to face each other on June 10th, 2023, in Vancouver, Canada. While that may have been the case, Pena allegedly sustained a rib injury.

Their current record against each other stands at 1-1 after Pena had initially shocked the world with a submission win before Nunes retaliated with a dominant unanimous decision win.

In contrast, Aldana was set to face Raquel Pennington on May 20th, 2023, with the winner being in line for a title shot.

The news of Pena’s injury has, therefore, given Aldana an opportunity. Aldana is in good form, having won four out of her last five fights.

She knocked out Macy Chiasson, while also getting a first-round TKO win against Yana Santos. And given the late change of opponent, Nunes has to be wary.
