Fans of the UFC will be on the edge of their seats as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will meet one month before their Lightweight Title fight at UFC 249 in Brooklyn.
Nurmagomedov (28-0) and Ferguson (25-3) are scheduled to appear at a UFC 249 press conference on March 7. The event will be inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada at 6 p.m. ET, which will be before the UFC 248 ceremonial weigh-ins.
The 31-year-old Nurmagomedov is looking to defend the Lightweight Title he won at UFC 223 against Al Iaquinta for the third time. He took care of Conor McGregor at UFC 229 and Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, both via submission. Since joining the UFC in 2012, “The Eagle” is 12-0.
Fighting in his second championship fight, Ferguson is on a 12-fight win streak. He is 15-1 in the UFC, winning The Ultimate Fighter 12 Welterweight Tournament in 2011. “El Cucuy” won the interim Lightweight Championship against Kevin Lee at UFC 216 but was stripped of it shortly after due to an injury.
This will be the fifth time the two have been scheduled to face off against one another. From 2015-2018 the two have managed to miss one another due to injuries or weight cut issues.
The UFC 248 ceremonial weigh-ins will include Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya, Yoel Romero, Strawweight Champion Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. UFC 249 takes place inside the Barclays Center on April 18. The main card will take place on ESPN+ following the ESPN prelims.
