Oezdemir Faces 45 Day Medical Suspension
Following his second round TKO loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 220, UFC light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir highlighted a list of 10 fighters to be given medical suspensions. The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation released the event’s finalized medical suspension report Tuesday.
As a result of damage sustained in the light heavyweight title fight, Oezdemir will be forced to sit out 45 days before returning to active competition, per Massachusetts commission officials.
Nine other fighters who received similar medical suspensions with three fighters gaining at least two months on the shelf.
Notably, the Massachusetts state commission does not publicly release the cause behind specific fighter medical suspensions.
UFC 220 took place Jan. 20 at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. The night’s main card aired live on pay-per-view.
