Oleksandr Usyk Receives Star Wars-themed Welcome On Ukraine Return
Oleksandr Usyk received a grand welcome from his fans at the Boryspil International Airport when he returned to Ukraine after beating Anthony Joshua Saturday night in London.
The Ukrainian star beat the Brit via unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to become the newly-crowned WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion. He has now gone unbeaten in 19 straight bouts.
The 34-year-old acknowledged the love of his supporters who welcomed him like a hero, giving him a guard of honor with light sabers on his way out of the airport.
Despite looking tired, Usyk took some time to sign autographs, received bouquets and clicked pictures with the fans.
In a brief interview with a media outlet at the airport, the heavyweight champ said that he’s now looking forward to spending time with his family.
“I simply wish to stay. I wish to take my children to high school, I wish to plant timber, water the apple timber and see my spouse extra usually,” Usyk said. “I spent three months in coaching camp, I want I might spend extra time with my spouse.”
For the people claiming that Joshua was robbed off a victory, Usyk did not have two cents to give.
“I actually do not care what the critics say,” he said. “There will at all times be folks criticizing. I do know what I’m doing. If I’m operating I do not cease till I cease. If I’m swimming, I’m not stopping till I practically drown.”
“I’m working very laborious so I actually do not care what folks say or take into consideration me,” he added.
