Oleksandr Usyk Thinks Tyson Fury Has The Mentality To Beat Anthony Joshua

Oleksandr Usyk believes Tyson Fury has all the tools to defeat Anthony Joshua.

Many fans have been eager to see Fury and Joshua share the ring. Fury holds the WBC Heavyweight Championship, while Joshua is the reigning WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Champion. Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn claims a May showdown between the two is all but official as there are some minor details that need to be ironed out.

Speaking to The Sun, Usyk expressed his belief that Fury can find a way to best Joshua.

“I should say that Tyson Fury is an unpredictable boxer. He has the right mentality and the boxing skills required [to beat Joshua]. But it is boxing so I can’t predict what would happen and how such a fight would end. But we will have to wait and see and I would be sure to watch.”

Usyk is the mandatory challenger for the WBO gold. Hearn has entertained possibilities from having Usyk fight for the vacant title two weeks after Joshua vs. Fury to just having Joshua relinquish the gold.

The ultimate goal is to have Fury and Joshua fight for the undisputed distinction. The WBO insists it won’t make any exceptions when it comes to the mandatory status unless Usyk agrees.

Usyk is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Derek Chisora. He has said that he wants to put his mandatory status to use. Time will tell what the WBO decides to do if Joshua vs. Fury goes on in May.
