Olympic Gold Medalist Boxer Fernando Atzori Passes Away

Olympic gold medalist Fernando Atzori has passed away at the age of 78.

Atzori died in a hospital in Florence on November 9. He had been ill for some time and was taken in at the hospital on October 28.

Atzori competed in the flyweight division. The Italian bruiser had a pro record of 44-6-2 with 13 of those wins coming by way of knockout. In 1964, Atzori won a gold medal at the Olympics in Tokyo. He went on to become the EBU Flyweight Champion. Aztori’s reign with the EBU Championship lasted from 1967 until 1972. Atzori regained the title the following year.
