ONE Championship: Demetrious Johnson’s Mixed-Special-Rules Fight Postponed

ONE Championship has confirmed that the event scheduled for December 5 has been postponed indefinitely due to a coronavirus outbreak in Singapore.

The event included a special mixed-rules bout between Demetrious Johnson and Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

The promotion’s regular shows scheduled for November and December will carry on as planned, only the ONE: X event has been put off due to an increase in infections. The ONE Championship CEO said that the postponed event will be held in early 2022 instead.

Three major bouts were planned to take place for ONE: X, the event marks the company’s 10-year anniversary.

The showdown between Johnson and Jitmuangnon will have alternating rounds between Muay Thai and MMA. Muay Thai rules will be implemented in the opening and third rounds, whereas the second and fourth rounds will be MMA.

The rule set favors Jitmuangnon more as compared to the ex-UFC star since the former has competed in over 300 professional Muay Thai bouts with a total of 267 wins. Jitmuangnon is on a five-fight winning streak and has been the champion since August 2, 2019.

Fans were looking forward to the event due to an odd record: Jitmuangnon has never competed in MMA, just as Johnson has never competed in Muay Thai.
