ONE Championship: Fire & Fury Results

Taking place inside the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines, ONE Championship presented its Fire & Fury event. Titles were defended and there were plenty of upsets in the promotions first 2020 appearance in the Philippines.

In the main event, Joshua Pacio successfully defended his Strawweight Championship against a formidable challenger in Alex Silva. Pacio (17-3) utilized his offensive capabilities in order to tire out Silva (9-5), who attempted to use his wrestling to his advantage. Pacio was able to avoid several takedown and guard pull attempts, which was the ultimate test for the champion. While Silva was able to take him down a few times, Pacio did not let him get into his head. At one point, Pacio hit a vicious knee that stunned Silva.

The offense by Pacio ended up being a key factor in the bout. Wile the fight lasted until the final bell rang, Pacio was able to showcase some of his best skills. A classic backfist stunned Silva once again, perhaps enough to secure the fight with the judges.

Pacio has now won three in a row following a loss to Yosuke Saruta last January. Silva is now 2-4 in his last six fights.

Other highlights from Fire & Fury include:

– Pieter Buist utilized armbars and a variety of kicks to take down former ONE Lightweight Champion Eduard Folayang. Winning via split decision, Buist (15-4) has one eight contests in a row, three of them for ONE. Folayang (22-9) is now 1-3 in his last four fights.

– Following his loss to Demetrious Johnson at ONE: Century back in October, Danny Kingad rebounded with a win over Xie Wei via unanimous decision. Kingad (14-2) used a big takedown to take Wei (5-3) out, who almost had Kihad in trouble when it came to striking. The ground game of theFlyweight Grand Prix semifinalist was dominant enough to secure him the win. The loss by Wei snaps a five-fight win streak.
