Orozco TKOs Gibson in the Fourth
In a battle of unbeaten fighters that aired on the Golden Boy on ESPN program, Antonio Orozco (26-0, 17 KOs) scored a fourth-round TKO over previously unbeaten KeAndre Gibson (16-1-1, 7 KOs) in a super lightweight bout on Saturday, April 1.
Orozco started the bout, which took place at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, throwing single hard shots. Orozco continued with hard combinations and body shots, though Gibson gave some response. Gibson got quite a bit more offense in the final minute of the opening round, but the first was more of both fighters feeling each other out.
Both fighters showed off their strong defensive work in the second, and both looked to break through their opposition’s blocking. Gibson managed to land a few nice shots, getting Orozco against the ropes, but Orozco looked ready to fire before the bell rang. Orozco landed some body shots during this round too, and Gibson was noticeably shaken by the shots while on the stool.
In round three, Orozco continued to aim for Gibson’s body. The referee warned for low blows, but Orozco continued to aim low to a point on Gibson’s stomach, where Gibson was protecting with an elbow because it was really hurting him. Orozco was hit with a low blow himself, however, prompting the ref to warn both fighters. Orozco continued to press the action throughout the third.
Through three, Orozco and Gibson both landed 33 percent of their shots, but Orozco threw and landed more shots.
In that fourth round, Orozco clipped Gibson with a shot on the jaw. Gibson got to his feet, but failed to answer the referee when asked if he wanted to continue, giving Orozco a TKO win.
