Ortiz to Fight Dave Allen on Joshua Undercard
Luis "King Kong" Ortiz did not meet much of a challenge in his Matchroom Boxing debut with Malik Scott, and his next opponent has already been named. The promotion announced that the heavyweight will face Dave Allen on the undercard of IBF champ Anthony Joshua’s Dec. 10 title defense.
Matchroom Boxing confirmed the matchup on Wednesday.
The event will take place at the Manchester Arena. While Joshua makes a title defense against Eric Molina, with Wladimir Klitschko looming, Ortiz (26-0) will look to assert himself as a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division.
Ortiz’s decision victory over Scott left many unsatisfied, as Scott fled from "King Kong" most of the fight and Ortiz was unable to secure a knockout victory. He will look to do so against Allen.
“We looked at opponents for December 10 and we wanted someone who will come to fight for the fans," Ortiz said. "Dave Allen called the fight on and he’s got his wish. It’s great to be taking on a Brit in his backyard and I’m confident you will see the real Luis Ortiz in Manchester.”
Allen confirmed that he pursued a matchup with Ortiz when the fearsome heavyweight was signed to Matchroom earlier this year.
“The day Eddie Hearn signed Luis Ortiz, I messaged him and said “I will fight him, stick me in with him!” said Allen. “I didn’t hold any fear of fighting him even before the Malik Scott fight. But that fight showed that the hype isn’t real. Ortiz isn’t Superman – I think he’s on the slide even though he’s undefeated."
Scott had similarly brave words prior to fighting Ortiz. We’ll see if Allen will stick to his on Dec. 10.
