Ortiz’ Trainer Says Wilder Gets KO’ed In Rematch
Luis Ortiz’ trainer, German Caicedo, in a new interview believes that if Luis Ortiz gets a rematch with Deontay Wilder, that the Cuban southpaw would finish what he started.
Ortiz’s team is pushing for a rematch of their battle earlier this month, and feels that Ortiz could knock Wilder out.
Caicedo also is against the idea that his fighter made a fatal flaw by not going for the KO in the eighth round.
“The mistake [Ortiz made] was not in the eighth, but [the mistake was made] in the seventh.. he wanted to rip his head off and he did not settle down a bit more to work the body, he got emotional, but you do not train for those things,” Caicedo told George Ebro.
“Wilder has no defense, Luis showed it, but I repeat if that fight ended in the 12th round – we would not win it by decision. I told Luis, ‘if the two of you stand in the middle of the ring and look at each other without throwing, Wilder will win. You have to remove the belt from him.’
“We would fix certain mistakes that we made and we would knock him out in the first round. Wilder was given the respect of a champion [in the early rounds], but the man has a big right hand, and if it’s taken away then he has nothing left.”
