Oscar De La Hoya: I Apologize For Triller Commentary
Oscar De La Hoya has apologized for his commentary on a recent Triller pay-per-view.
The event was headlined by a boxing match between YouTuber Jake Paul and former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren. De La Hoya was brought in to do commentary beginning with Steve Cunningham vs. Frank Mir.
Fans noticed that the “Golden Boy” appeared to be under the influence. During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Ak & Barak Show, De La Hoya admitted that he went overboard (via BoxingScene.com).
“I’ve been in beast mode for about six weeks, right? And I got a little into it. You know, I started having a couple drinks. And then they told me, ‘Why don’t you go and commentate?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, man! OK. OK.’ I got a little over-carried away. And I apologize. But it’s all good. It’s all good. I’m back in beast mode. I’m ready to go and I mean, as you know, I’ve been posting pictures and videos of me training. So, I’m gonna continue that. So, it’s on, baby.”
De La Hoya is scheduled to return to the ring on July 3. An opponent has not been announced, although former UFC Champion Eddie Alvarez claims he’s in consideration.
