Oscar De La Hoya Responds To Canelo-Eddie Hearn Partnership

Oscar De La Hoya has chimed in on Canelo Alvarez’s newfound business relationship with Eddie Hearn.

Canelo is a megastar in the sport of boxing. He currently holds the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Titles. He’s due for his third fight under the Matchroom Boxing banner when he meets WBO Champion Billy Joe Saunders on May 8. While this bout will wrap up Canelo’s two-fight deal with Matchroom, the Mexican star plans on sticking with Hearn long-term.

Not too long ago, Canelo was fighting under De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. A nasty legal dispute involving DAZN led to Canelo being granted his release. Appearing on SiriusXM and DAZN’s The Ak & Barak Show, De La Hoya responded to Canelo’s positive outlook on the deal with Hearn.

“Good for him. I’m glad that he appreciates him. It makes me happy that they’re gonna be working long-term and I’m sure they have a deal together. It’s good news for everybody because as long as Canelo fights, the whole boxing world wins. I think he’s doing a good job. I think that Canelo, right now, is on top of the world and good for him. I wish him all the best and let’s move on because like I said when Canelo fights everybody wins.”

De La Hoya went on to say that he believes Canelo will be working with him again at some point down the road.

“I’ve been in this business for about 20-something years. I’ve promoted everyone including Mayweather, including Pacquiao. All the very best. I’ve had one fighter in the past in all those 20 years that wasn’t happy. But I’m pretty sure that I’ll be working with him once again. I have no doubt whatsoever. People always think that the grass is greener on the other side, well we’ll see.”
