Oscar De La Hoya: ‘Ryan Garcia Is Obviously Ready To Face Anyone’
Oscar De La Hoya believes Ryan Garcia is prepared to share the ring with any lightweight standing in his way.
Garcia is coming off the biggest victory of his pro boxing career. He captured the interim WBC Lightweight Championship by knocking out Luke Campbell with a body shot in the seventh round. Garcia had to battle adversity in the fight as he was knocked down for the first time in his career in the second round.
During an interview with BoxingScene.com, De La Hoya said that Garcia has got the skills to take out any elite lightweight.
“Ryan Garcia is obviously ready to face anyone without a doubt. So, I have to sit down with Ryan and his team to figure out what’s next. I want to make the best and the biggest fights possible for Ryan Garcia and for all of his fans. So, we’ll see what’s next.”
De La Hoya made it clear that he views Garcia as the A-side no matter who he shares the ring with.
“We could see (a fight with Haney) happen when that fight is ready. Ryan is ready to face everyone in the lightweight division, he just proved that (Saturday night). Those big fights are going to be on our terms, on the terms of Ryan Garcia. I don’t mean that in a business way, no. Listen, whenever [Garcia is] ready, he wants these fights. Every champion out there needs Ryan Garcia, not the other way around.”
