Oscar De La Hoya Thinks Ryan Garcia Will Capitalize On Luke Campbell’s Aggression
Oscar De La Hoya believes Luke Campbell will leave openings for Ryan Garcia.
On Saturday night, January 2, Garcia and Campbell will collide inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The bout will be contested for the interim WBC Lightweight Championship. Garcia vs. Campbell is being co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing.
During a virtual press conference, De La Hoya said he believes Garcia will take advantage of an aggressive Campbell (via BoxingScene.com).
“I think Luke Campbell, his fighting style is gonna be different because he has to deal with Ryan’s speed. OK? And Ryan is in a whole different category in terms of mentality and punching power and speed and footwork. He’s in a whole different category than what Luke Campbell is used to, OK, in his previous opponents that he’s faced. So, I think Luke Campbell’s gonna come in aggressive, he’s gonna come in reckless and that’s where Ryan Garcia should take advantage. I think Luke Campbell is gonna be very cautious, yes, but aggressive at the same time.”
Garcia is unbeaten in his pro boxing career. His record stands at 20-0 with 17 of those victories coming by way of knockout. Campbell holds a 20-3 record with 16 knockouts.
If Garcia can get past Campbell, then there are a few matchups that’ll have fight fans salivating. There’s a possible showdown with WBC titleholder Devin Haney. Garcia has also been calling for a showdown with WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight and WBA (Regular) Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis. Then there’s Teofimo Lopez, who holds the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Titles.
