Oscar De La Hoya Working On Late-Summer Title Fights

Oscar De La Hoya says Golden Boy Promotions is pushing to finalize Vergil Ortiz Jr. (24-0, 22 KOs) vs. Jaron Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) at super welterweight, and Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) vs. Conor Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) at welterweight.

“Working on Vergil Ortiz versus Boots. Vergil Ortiz wants to fight. Let’s make that happen. It all depends on Boots,” De La Hoya said

Ortiz has been vocal about wanting the biggest available fights at 154lbs, with De La Hoya previously saying he expects Ortiz to fight by the end of the year after their prior contractual dispute. Meanwhile, Ennis called out Ortiz after stopping Xander Zayas to unify at 154 last month. On Garcia, De La Hoya was equally direct. Garcia previously announced that he would be defending his belt vs Benn on September 12, but Oscar said he needs to be involved in negotiations and hadn’t been contacted about the fight yet. There is now a shift in tone from De La Hoya.
