Oscar Valdez Defends WBO Title on June 8

Oscar Valdez’s sixth defense of the WBO Featherweight Championship is set, as he will face the challenge of Jason Sanchez in the main event of a Top Rank card from the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada, on June 8.

Valdez most recently competed in February as part of the undercard for Eleider Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev, retaining the title with a seventh-round TKO of Carmine Tommasone. He won the then-vacant featherweight title in July 2016, defeating Matias Rueda. Since then, in addition to defeating Tommasone, he’s made successful defenses against the likes of Hiroshige Osawa, Miguel Marriaga, Genesis Servania and Scott Quigg.

Sanchez is unbeaten at 14-0 with seven knockouts, and this marks his first boxing world title shot. He also most recently competed on the Alvarez-Kovalev II undercard in February, defeating Daniel Olea by TKO.
