Oscar Valdez Eyeing Bouts With Vasiliy Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis, & Herring-Frampton Winner
Oscar Valdez hopes to get some massive fights following his WBC Super-Featherweight Title win.
On February 20, Valdez challenged Miguel Berchelt for the WBC gold. Valdez made the most of his opportunity, scoring a “Knockout of the Year” candidate at the end of the 10th round.
Coming off the biggest win of his pro boxing career, Valdez says he’s targeting some major fights with the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis, and the winner of Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton. Here’s what he said during an appearance on Max on Boxing (via BoxingScene.com).
“Definitely. You know, at the end of the day, fighting is what puts food on the table for my family. And, you know, we want the bigger and better fights. I would love a fight with Lomachenko. I would love a fight with Lomachenko or Gervonta Davis or the winner of [Carl] Frampton and Jamel Herring. The fights that [pay] more money, you know, those are the fights I would wanna have. But also, fights that people wanna see.
“You know, I don’t wanna fight somebody for the money, and then get criticized later in my career, saying that I’m ducking fighters or that I’m scared of fighting certain fighters. I’m not scared of fighting nobody, but I would wanna get the money fights because, like I repeat, at the end of the day, that’s what puts food on the table for my family.”
Lomachenko is expected to take on Masayoshi Nakatani sometime this summer. Davis’ next fight could be against Mario Barrios. Herring vs. Frampton will be held this Saturday, April 3.
