Oscar Valdez (33-3, 24 KOs) secured a unanimous decision victory over Richard Medina (16-4, 9 KOs) in their featherweight contest: 97-93, 98-92, and 100-90.
Valdez was on the front foot, using his jab to keep Medina on the back foot, landing sharp hooks in the opener. However, Medina took Valdez’s best shots and began to gain momentum, breaking through Valdez’s defense.
Valdez was slowing down in the middle rounds, as Medina was closing the gap. Heading into the championship rounds, however, Valdez showed his class. He connected with a series of looping hooks to knock out Medina’s mouthguard in the eighth. Valdez’s experience allowed him to close out the win for his first win since December last year.
