Oscar Valdez, Shakur Stevenson Meet In Face-Off Ahead Of April Unification Bout
A fight to determine the best junior lightweight is set.
WBC champion Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs) will meet WBO titleholder Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs) in a unification fight on April 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Stevenson is coming off a TKO victory over veteran Jamel Herring for his WBO title back in October. It was clear Stevenson had an edge on his opponent, and eventually wore him down. He is also a silver medalist from the 2016 Summer Olympics for Team USA.
Valdez most recently defeated Robson Conceicao via unanimous decision following controversy. Valdez tested positive for a banned stimulant, but was still allowed to defend his belt against Conceicao.
Before that, Valdez notched a career-defining performance. In February 2021, he stunned Miguel Berchelt with a 10th round knockout for the WBC belt.
The two had their first face-off on Wednesday.
