Pacquiao Advised To Avoid Trading With Matthysse
With his return to the ring rapidly approaching, Manny Pacquiao is being advised to avoid going toe-to-toe with WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse.
“Anybody who has a good punch has a chance, that’s why they call it a puncher’s chance,” Winky Wright said in an interview with On The Ropes Boxing.
Matthysse has stopped 36 of his 39 wins before the scorecards, leading Wright to believe Pacquiao cannot get roped into a slug fest with the younger fighter.
“If Pacquiao still has the good legs and can move in and out like he does, it’s going to be hard for anybody to beat him,” he explained.
Matthysse’s trainer Joel Diaz said he and his fighter look to emulate the strategy of Juan Manuel Marquez’ knockout victory in 2012.
“If he stays there and just tries to catch Matthysse with a big punch, Matthysse has a good punch and could end it,” Wright added.
