Pacquiao Hopes Thurman Is In Championship Form

Manny Pacquiao’s return the ring was confirmed this weekend, was the WBA “regular” welterweight champion will face undefeated WBA “super” welterweight champion Keith Thurman.

The fight between the two WBA title holders will happen on July 20th for a Fox Sports PPV that will have Thurman’s title on the line in a venue yet to be announced.

Thurman, who has only fought once since defeating Danny Garcia in 2017, faces his biggest challenge in Pacquiao, who walked through a unanimous decision win over Adrien Broner in January.

“I liked the way he fought against Danny Garcia,” Pacquiao said to Yahoo Sports of Thurman’s only fight until a January win against Josesito Lopez. “I thought his style would match up well with mine. We are going to give the fans a great fight and an exciting night.”

While Thurman showed some rust and problems against Lopez in his return fight, Pacquiao thinks the WBA champion will return to form for their Pay-Per-View main event.

“I would say Keith Thurman has looked rusty in the past,” Pacquiao said. “I do not think that will be an issue when we fight because he has already fought once this year. I anticipate an action fight from him.”
