Pacquiao Hopes to Quiet ‘Loudmouth’ Thurman
Keith Thurman has already done a lot of talking in the lead up to his WBA (Super) Welterweight Title defense against WBA (Regular) Champion Manny Pacquiao on July 20; Pacquiao wants to do nothing more than shut him up.
The 30-year-old Thurman has stated that Pacquiao has never fought anyone “strong, young and hungry” like him, adding that he will be the one to retire boxing’s only eight-division world champion.
Pacquiao implied he’d rather see what Thurman’s got in the ring, stating Thurman better be willing to back up his trash talk.
“He’s a loudmouth outside the ring. Let’s see if he can back it up inside the ring,” Pacquiao said while training in Manila, Philippines. “Some boxers are arrogant while other boxers are humble. Thurman? We know he’s arrogant. I’m so motivated for this training camp because of his trash talk, like that. I would rather have my fists do the talking.”
Pacquiao, who is back under the cornering of Freddie Roach, looked to be surely nearing retirement until he claimed the WBA secondary title with a finish of Lucas Matthysse in July and a decision win over Adrien Broner in January.
Pacquiao said he would not be troubled by a younger opponent, as he easily handled the 29-year-old Broner.
