Pacquiao-Khan Moved to May 19

Manny Pacquiao’s next fight has undergone some strange changes over the past few months. Though he was originally slated to face Jeff Horn, he is now reportedly set to fight Amir Khan in what will be a much bigger fight. Now, that fight has reportedly been pushed back to May 19.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz told Yahoo Sports that the fight has been pushed back so that they can promote the fight more and give it more time to sell.

“We decided to move it to May 19 here and May 20 in the United [Arab] Emirates so we’d have time to promote it properly and make it a huge success. I have to talk to both fighters [on Wednesday] to get them to approve going in May instead of in April. I don’t think that will be any problem.”

The fight will take place in either Dubai or Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

It is an interesting decision to move the fight back to mid-May, as it means they will be the second big pay-per-view show of the month after the May 6 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez. That fight is expected to sell well on pay-per-view, so Pacquiao’s team is taking a gamble by assuming that boxing fans will be willing to buy another pay-per-view 13 days later.
