Pacquiao-Matthysse Rumored For June 24th

After refusing to fight on the undercard of the upcoming Jeff Horn-Terence Crawford showdown, it seems Manny Pacquiao will be returning to the ring after all, but not in Vegas.

According to a report from the Phil Star website Pacquiao has signed to face WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse on June 24th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In a press release sent out by Pacquiao’s information officer, the fight will be a co-promotion between MP Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, who act as Matthysse’s promoter.

“I like his (Matthysse’s) aggressive fighting style. That’s what I want, to entertain the boxing fans. Besides, Matthysse is not a dirty fighter and I highly respect him for that,” said Pacquiao, who per the report was looking at either Matthysse or Danny Garcia to be his next opponent.

Pacquiao views himself as the underdog in the fight against the WBA “regular” welterweight champion, due to Matthysse’s power, and coming off the loss to Jeff Horn in 2017.

I’m the underdog in this fight but I’m used to it. It serves as a big motivation for me to train and fight hard to win the crown.”
