Pacquiao Signs With RIZIN

Following the footsteps of rival Floyd Mayweather, WBA “regular” welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has signed with Japanese MMA promotion, RIZIN.

On Monday, Rizin CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara posted to Twitter of Pacquiao signing a deal with the promotion that hosted Floyd Mayweather’s first-round drubbing of Tenshin Nasukawa in January.

“I’m here in the Philippines,” wrote Sakakibara. “RIZIN.15 will have this man involved in a way. We will be ready to announce as I get back to Japan!”

Pacquiao will be in attendance for RIZIN’s return on April 21st, more than likely to announce a fight or explain what his deal with RIZIN will be.

Pacquiao was a vocal critic of Mayweather’s exhibition with Nasukawa due to the twenty-pound weight differential and Nasukawa’s lack of boxing experience, and is not a fan of exhibtions that do not have an announced winner or loser.

With a fight in July near complete against either WBA “Super” welterweight champion, Keith Thurman and former world champion Danny Garcia, the RIZIN deal could see that fight take place in Tokyo.
