Pacquiao Vs Romero Could Happen In January
Manny Pacquiao’s (62-8-3, 39 KOs) fight vs WBA Welterweight Champion Rolando Romero (17-2-0, 13 KOs), which the 8-division world champ said is in the final stage of negotiations, could now take place in January.
Reports indicate the bout is being pushed back from the originally targeted month of December, following the announcement that PBC will be putting on a Pay Per View headlined by Isaac Pitbull Cruz vs Lamont Roach Jr. on December 6. Pacquiao returned from a 4-year retirement this past July, fighting to a majority draw against the WBC Welterweight Champion Marios Barrios. Meanwhile, Romero is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Ryan Garcia back in May to capture the “regular” version of the WBA 147-pound title.
If the fight is officially set for early January, and the 47-year-old Pacquiao beats the 29-year old Romero, he would break his own record for being the oldest welterweight champion in history…he previously broke the record in 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman for the WBA welterweight belt at the age of 40. FIGHT SPORTS is keeping a close eye on this potential fight and will continue to provide updates once they become available.
