Paro Stuns Matias To Win IBF 140-Pound Title

Subriel Matias lost his IBF Junior Welterweight Belt, as Liam Paro secured an upset unanimous decision win.

Paro started the fight on the front foot, using his jab to keep the knockout artist Matias at bay. Paro continued the attack but was tagged by a right hand in the second as he tasted the champ’s power. Before the round ended, Paro connected with a right hook and left. Matias’ offense increased in the third, as he pushed Paro to the ropes, landing to the body and head.

Paro reasserted his dominance, outboxing Matias in the next two rounds. Paro, however, was deducted a point for excessive holding and hitting.

As the fight reached round eight, Paro had slowed down. Matias landed right hands to the head and body to change the momentum. Matias connected with an uppercut in the ninth, but Paro responded with some left hands. As the fight went to the championship rounds, Paro held on to pull off an upset: 115-112, 115-112 and 116-111.
