Pascal Looks To Stay Active After Upset Over Browne
Following his surprising stoppage win over Marcus Browne, new interim WBA light heavyweight champion, Jean Pascal, doesn’t eye a long away from the ring.
Pascal sent Browne to the canvas three times on August 3rd, in a surprising win inside Barclays Center.
“We’ve seen shortcomings [Browne had] against Badou Jack. We thought that if we hit him hard, we had a chance to send him to the floor,” explained Pascal’s coach, Stephan Larouche to RDS.
Reported by Boxing Scene, Browne will look to enact his rematch clause, after being stopped in the eighth due to a bad laceration that seemed to have been caused by an accidental headbutt.
“People would say, ‘Jean, why do not you stop?’ I knew I still had gas in the tank. I knew I could still become world champion again,” Pascal said to RDS of his wanting to fight again this year before a Browne rematch.
“I know I have a rematch against Marcus Browne. I do not know if he will take his rematch option. But also I know he has to take a break. I will probably have a fight between the two in the meantime. I would like to return before the end of 2019.”
