“I’m delighted to promote the first World Title fight on a Matchroom Boxing Italy show as Franceso Patera and Devis Boschiero clash for the Interim WBA Lightweight crown,” stated Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn. “Patera has gone from strength to strength since beating Lewis Ritson in Newcastle and lands a golden opportunity against the experienced Boschiero. Gamal Yafai steps up to take on local favourite Luca Rigoldi for the European Super-Bantamweight title. Catch it all live on DAZN.”
A veteran with over 22 wins via knockout, Boschiero (48-6-2) is currently on a two-fight win streak. The 38-year-old rebounded from a split decision loss to Martin Joseph Ward back in 2018 with a win over Yesner Talavera via points decision and Ivan Tomas in September via TKO. A former European Super Featherweight Champion, Boschiero is 2-1-1 in his last four fights.
Boschiero faces a young Belgian fighter with eight wins via knockout in Francesco Patera. Starting his career in 2012, Patera (23-3) is on a five-fight win streak following a decision win over Ruben Gouveia back in May 2018. The next fight, he won the EBU European Lightweight Title in a bout against Lewis Ritson in October that same year. Patera’s last fight was this past October, beating Domenico Valentino via unanimous decision.
The co-main event of the card will be Gamal Yafai v. Luca Rigoldi for the EBU European Super-Bantamweight Title. The 28-year-old Yafai (17-1) has won three in a row since his first loss to Gavin McDonnell in 2018. He only fought once in 2019, beating Lee Clayton via round-three TKO.
Rigoldi (22-1-2) has not lost a professional bout since 2016. His last fight was a draw against Spartak Shengelia back in December.
