Patricio Freire & A.J. McKee Hurl Digs Following Bellator 253

Patricio Freire and A.J. McKee have continued their war of words.

Freire and McKee are both in the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix. Freire is the 145-pound champion, who is set to compete in a semi-final bout against Emmanuel Sanchez. As for McKee, he recently earned a spot in the finals with his first-round submission win over Darrion Caldwell.

Freire took to his Twitter account to react to McKee’s victory over Caldwell and he didn’t appear to be impressed.

“Guy that loves to get guillotined after controlling fights leaves his neck exposed after starting to gain control of the fight. Great fight IQ. And the other fool dared to say I chose the easiest bracket. The toughest tournament fight will be Sanchez. McKee is easy money.”

McKee fired back at “Pitbull” during the Bellator 253 post-fight press conference (via

“It wasn’t a guillotine, stupid. It had nothing to do with his neck. It was a shoulder crank. You’re supposed to be Brazilian. You don’t know (expletive) about jiu-jitsu, apparently. I can’t wait to beat his ass, honestly. This (expletive) is long overdue. He takes it personal, but it’s nothing personal. He had a great career, but the ’45, ’55 title – I want it back to back. Period.”

Never one to hold his tongue, Freire promised to showcase his ground game against McKee if he makes it to the finals.

“What are you, 2 years old? I never said you caught him with a guillotine, I said he often gets caught with guillotines and yet left his neck exposed once again. I will show you real jiu-jitsu when we fight.”
