Patricio Freire Calls For Crossover Fight With UFC Champion Alex Volkanovski
Patricio Pitbull has expressed his opinions over a potential matchup with UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski.
It’s difficult to overlook Volkanovski when determining who the division’s top fighter is on a pound-for-pound basis. Since entering the UFC, the Australian sensation has pummeled everyone crossing his path, turning down Max Holloway three times.
As he experiments with switching to lightweight, “Pitbull” Freire has issued a challenge to him.
After defeating Adam Borics over the weekend to successfully defend his featherweight title, the Bellator veteran appears more than willing to face Volkanovski.
“I bet one million and he accepted that, but Dana White doesn’t have balls,” Freire said.
PItbull first issued the contested challenge in the summer of 2020, and since then, in a two-fight series with AJ McKee, Freire lost his 145-pound title, but then won it back in the rematch.
While everything is going on, Volkanovski has yet to taste defeat in his UFC career. The only blemish on his overall MMA career is a loss to Corey Nelson in May 2013.
