Patricio Pitbull-Chandler To Fight At Bellator 221

The war of words between the Pitbull brothers and Michael Chandler will head into the Bellator cage, as Patricio Freire will move up to 155 pounds to face lightweight champion Michael Chandler.

According to ESPN, Freire, the current featherweight champion of the Viacom owned brand, will face move up to lightweight on May 11th at Bellator 221 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois

The feud between the two sides began with Chandler knocking Patricky Freire out at Bellator 157 for the then vacant lightweight title. In the immediate aftermath, Patricio would confront Chandler during the latter’s celebration and have gone after one another in the press and on social media ever since.

For Chandler, this will be his first defense of the title he regained at Bellator 212 in Hawaii when he took a decision against Brent Primus.

With a win, Freire would become the second fighter in Bellator history to become a double-champion, as Ryan Bader crossed that threshold with a win at Bellator 214 in the finals of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, adding the heavyweight title to his light heavyweight crown.

Slated for Bellator’s return to the Chicago area is former WWE champion Jake Hager, as well as Douglas Lima’s second round fight in the Welterweight Grand Prix against either Paul Daley or Michael Page. and A.J McKee taking on former featherweight champion Pat Curran.
