Patricky Freire and Peter Queally Will Fight For Vacated Lightweight Belt At Bellator 270

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire just opened a door for his older brother.

On Wednesday, Bellator President Scott Coker said that Patricio vacated his lightweight title. This gives Patricky, Patricio’s older brother, a shot at the title against Peter Queally at the co-main event of Bellator 270. This event will take place in Dublin, Ireland on November 5.

“Honor and family come first. When I first won the LW belt, it was just about revenge. It was still an honor, but with the loss at 145, I’m starting over. It’s time for the LW division to move on and for @PatrickyPitbull to have his shot. My focus is on AJ and him only. #TheMMAHour

Patricio earned that lightweight title almost two years ago when he dethroned Michael Chandler in a 61-second TKO, becoming a two-division champion.

Since he became double champion, he has never defended his lightweight title because he was busy participating in the featherweight grand prix.

On Wednesday, he posted on social media that he is focused on AJ McKee only and it is time for the lightweight division to move on. McKee stunned Patricio at Bellator 263, snatching his featherweight title.

Patricky (23-10 MMA, 14-8 BMMA) will face Queally (13-5-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), an Irish man in Ireland.

They first shared the cage at Bellator 258, and Patricky suffered a Doctor Stoppage loss at the end of the second round.

In this rematch, he will have an opportunity to avenge his loss and win the title.

The headlining of Bellator 270 is going to be a bantamweight clash between Patrick Mix and James Gallagher.
