Patricky Pitbull Eyes Title Shot With Win In Newcastle
On Saturday night, Patricky “Pitbull” Freire heads to the United Kingdom as Bellator christens their new U.K. brand with an event in Newcastle.
Walking into the Radio Arena on February 9th, Freire has a four fight win-streak inside the Bellator cage that has seen him defeat all but one opponent (Benson Henderson) by knockout or TKO. Even more impressive for Freire is that 65% of his total wins have come via knockout.
With those stats, it is easy to see that a win against Ryan Scope, that he’d be the top contender for new Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, who defeated Freire in 2017 for the then vacant title.
The feud between Chandler and with both Patricky and Patricio Freire is well reported, with both sides spouting insults and inflammatory comments to the other, which leaves the debuting Ryan Scope as a spoiler for a potential superfight later this year.
Scope, a BAMMA veteran with only one loss on his record, has not fought since 2017, which could put him at a disadvantage against the more consistent Freire, who has fought at least twice a year since the start of his pro career in 2015.
Joining the rest of the main card for February 9th are former reality star turned fighter Aaron Chalmers and Corey Browning fighting at lightweight, and middleweights Lee Chadwick and Fabian Edwards, and another lightweight fight between Terry Brazier and Chris Bungard.
